  • Three weeks later.

#Bionic man. 2.10.  Wednesday, April 20, 2016.  My knee replacement operation was three weeks ago today.  My surgeon cleared me to drive when he saw me last week.  Until then Gale had been driving me around and helping at home.  She’s back home in Philadelphia now, and I’m missing our card and Scrabble games.  When…

  • Going home tomorrow. (Final version. Sorry for premature publication earlier.)

#Bionic man. 2.9.  Saturday, April 9, 2016.  After I’m discharged from St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center tomorrow morning,  Gale will drive me home.  Outpatient PT starts on Wednesday.    Even though I’m only taking a small dose of oxycodone before therapy each day, my mind is still too fuzzy for complex thinking.  So, I will only attempt…

  • I finally talked with the Great Oz.

#Bionic man 2.8.  Wednesday, April 6, 2016.  Less oxycodone yesterday meant that I could stay awake to see UConn women run over Syracuse women.  At least Anne Mei’s maternal grandmother would be happy.  I’m just glad that the Orange women went down fighting to the end. Dr. T came to my room this morning around…

  • It’s not over until it’s over. Go Orange!

#Bionic man 2.7.  Tuesday, April 5, 2016. Much more coherent today.  Cut the oxycodone in half.  Will cut it in half again tomorrow.  Yet I had my first really hardcore physical therapy sessions.  Painful at first, but the more my muscles and tendons were stretched the less pain I felt.  Bodes well for tomorrow. Received…

  • Let’s hear it for feeling no pain.

#Bionic man 2.6.  April 4, 2016,   My sister Deborah’s birthday.  Therapy started today.  Three sessions per day.  One occupational therapy (OT) and two physical therapy (PT).  10 mg oxycodone before each PT session.  No pain, but completely zonked.  Falling asleep between each word.  Till next time.  Enjoy.

  • Ken Unplugged

#Bionic Man 2.5. Saturday, April 2, 2016. If Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and the Rolling Stones can release unplugged music, I can unplug from Princeton Hospital.  While I was in bed at the hospital I was tethered to an alarm, which would ring loudly and announce “Do not get up!  Stay in your seat” over…

  • Pulling a needle out sometimes hurts worse than sticking it in.

#Bionic Man 2.4. Friday, April 1, 2016. Finally had to break down and take oxycodon last night so I could get some sleep.  It worked.  Between the spinal block wearing off and strenuous physical therapy yesterday, the pain in my leg made it impossible to fall asleep without some chemical assistance. I was very tired because…

  • The computer always locks up when you’re in a hurry.

#Bionic man 2.3.  Wednesday, March 30, 2016.  Surgery went quickly and well this morning.  I will be in Princeton Medical Center until Friday, after which I will go to St. Lawrence Rehabilitation center or perhaps even home, depending on how quickly I recover.  Physical therapy got me out of bed this afternoon and had me…

  • Now you have to go to school before you get operated on.

#Bionic man 2.2.  Monday, March 28, 2016.  My son Joseph Mubundi Daly’s 50th birthday.  Joe was born on a dark and stormy night in the middle of the monsoon in Nkubu, Kenya.  I’ve told the story of that night on Wattpad. To remind Joe of where he was born we gave him the middle name…

  • Note to self: don’t chicken out.

#Bionic man 2.1.  Saturday, March 26, 2016.  As my sister Kate said when she called yesterday, the countdown has begun.  I’m scheduled to report for knee replacement surgery at Princeton Medical Center early Wednesday morning, March 30.  As I’ve mentioned before, both my knees need to be done this year and it is likely that…
